Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), is the chemical in marijuana that causes the high. In the 1970's the average THC content in weed was 2%.
Now due of improved breeding, growing and harvesting techniques, it's normal to find marijuana with THC content well over 20%
Addiction
THC is also the component in marijuana that causes addiction. As with other drugs, when the potency of a drug increases, the possibility for addiction also increases.
Oil/Dabbing
THC can be extracted and concentrated into liquid wax (honey oil), solid wax (wax, budder), or an amber colored solid (shatter).
Concentrated THC products such as oil, shatter, and dab average 54-69% THC and can contain upwards 80% THC.
Dependency/Addiction
Marijuana addiction is more likely to occur when marijuana is used often, beginning at an early age. Addiction affects:
9% of overall marijuana users
17% of users who began before the age of 18
25-50% of daily users
Withdrawl
In West Contra Costa County, 9% of 11th graders report that they have tried to quite using marijuana. Marijuana withdrawal symptoms include:
increased irritability
depression
anxiety
restlessness
headache
loss of appetite
sleeping difficulties
intense marijuana cravings
